As the managing director of a media production company, I was often on the road, always looking for peace and freedom. When the VW T5 was increasingly replacing the Porsche as a luxury vehicle in Munich, I thought to myself: "I want one too, that's cool!" So I bought one and regularly drove to the mountains. There I filmed video wallpapers for my customers - from A to Zermatt, at idyllic mountain lakes and in the middle of nature. My camper became my place of retreat. But there was a problem: the sterile, gray surface on the seat.
Not only that - the chaos in the bus also bothered me. Things were flying around everywhere and as a solution I bought a seat organizer online. Neon green. Unfortunately the product was broken after only 14 days.
So I decided to develop an organizer myself - exactly to my needs. On my free weekends, I sat down with my then partner and tinkered. But there was a challenge: I didn't have a sewing machine that could sew through the base plate felt. So I bought snap fasteners, pressed them into the base plate and fitted the modules with the matching counterparts.
The result? Everything held perfectly! A friend later remarked enthusiastically: “Hey, you can arrange the modules however you want!” And so it was born: the RYGG system – modular, flexible and robust.
On our travels, our DIY RYGG caught the eye of many passers-by and camping friends. We were repeatedly asked: “Where can I buy one?” The demand was so great that we decided to set up a small production alongside my media production.
We started in our small workshop with Marcia as our first employee . The first RYGGs were produced on a beer bench , with a lot of manual work and passion. My know-how from the media industry helped me to quickly set up an online shop - and soon after, the first orders came in.
Since 2017, we have supplied over 6,000 satisfied customers with our handcrafted storage solutions and produced over 25,000 modules - all in our own workshop. Sometimes with two people, sometimes with up to eight people in a team.
Demand grew steadily, so we had to find a larger solution at the end of 2024. Since then, our RYGG system has been produced in a small sewing shop near Passau - with Anja and her great team. Production remains high-quality and fair, only the scaling has been optimized. In Munich, we now only take care of shipping and packaging.
In mid- 2024, we further developed our product: The 2.0 version replaced the original module design – more economical in production and even more robust for our customers.
We are proud to have built a community of campers, adventurers and order lovers. Even though I don't go out in a camper van that often anymore, I love hearing our customers' stories.
A RYGG is more than an organizer – it is a well thought-out solution for those who are on the go and want more space for the essentials.
